Graduation Requirements
Graduation Requirements
Full year courses are worth 5 credits
Half-year courses are worth 2.5 credits
All students must earn a minimum of 120 credits AND meet the state testing requirement in order to be eligible for graduation.
The 120 credits must come from the following areas:
Language Arts - 20 credits (4 years)
Mathematics - 15 credits (3 years) - Includes Algebra 1 or content equivalent, Geometry or content equivalent, and a third year of mathematics that builds on th concepts and skills of algebra and geometry and prepares students for college and 21st century careers
Science - 15 credits (3 years) - Includes at least 5 credits in laboratory biology/life science or the content equivalent, 1 additional laboratory/inquiry-based science course, which can include chemistry, environmental science, or physics, and 1 additional laboratory/inquiry-based science course.
Social Studies - 15 credits (3 years) - Includes 5 credits in world history and 10 credits in United States history
World Languages - 10 credits (2 years)
Physical Education - 20 credits (4 years) Includes health and driver education
Visual/Performing Arts - 5 credits (1 year)
Financial Literacy - 2.5 credits (1/2 year)
Career/Technical Education - 5 credits (1 year)
Community Service - 50 hours
Students must also complete additional credits in elective courses in order to meet the required 120 credits.
In addition to meeting the 120 credit requirement, students must also meet a state requirement with regards to assessment. The requirement is as follows:
Students must pass a NJGPA assessment in both English Language Arts and Mathematics, or meet one of the other requirements listed in the table below for both subject areas.
